Where is the authentic restaurant scene?

This year, I replaced my annual pilgrimage to the NRA Show in Chicago with a month in St Louis, Missouri to find out what’s happening on the US urban restaurant scene.

And what is going on? A wide diversity of choice, increasing prices, shortages of the right kind of labour. People are still going out to eat but sticking to the tried and tested, going out to their family favourites – just try El Burro Loco, on Euclid Ave in St Louis - but they are not doing this as often as they did. Instead they eat in, or they order their food for pick up (or delivery).
