Restaurants have a mountain to climb

Despite the anticipation in the lead up to Discovery Day (4 July), the day itself was…underwhelming. It didn’t reflect the recent survey findings which tend to show a third of Brits want to eat out as soon as they can.

The Huq Index stood at 21.0 on Saturday having barely shifted from the day before – when restaurants were closed.

This underwhelming start to the resurrection of the industry underlines that it will be a long, slow road to recovery.

However, it is not all doom and gloom - there is still some growth and innovation in the sector. My latest Ones to Watch report identifies up and coming brands that are continuing to expand.
